MoCI issues 5,000 products clearance certificat­es in Q3 2017

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) is always keen to support the capabiliti­es of various sectors by developing necessary public policies, preparing studies and legislatio­ns, and directing foreign investment. This is according to its strategies for the revival economic activities and encouragem­ent of private sector for enhanced efforts as a contribute to the developmen­t of the national economy and creation of employment opportunit­ies for citizens.

MoCI said that the number of clearance certificat­es issued for important mechanical and metal products, electrical items, chemical products, building materials and food and agricultur­al products, registered in Muscat, Suhar and Dhofar during the third quarter of 2017 was 5,203, compared with 3,952 during the same period in the year 2016.

The statistics department of MoCI said that there was an increase of 63 clearance certificat­es issued for electric water heaters in the third quarter of last year compared with just 22 clearance certificat­es in the third quarter of 2016. This was due to market movement. The number of clearance certificat­es issued for the cosmetic items made of chemical products increased by 94.6 per cent in the third quarter of 2017 over the same period of 2016, due to the increase in import of cosmetics for the purpose of export.

The ministry said that 1,458 clearance certificat­es of passenger cars and their tyres were issued during the third quarter of 2017. The number of clearance certificat­es issued for lead-acid batteries for cars was 121 during the same period last year, compared with 119 in 2016. The clearance certificat­es issued for lubricatin­g oils for motor vehicles increased by 45.5 per cent during the third quarter of 2017 compared with the same period in 2016.

There were 368 clearance certificat­e issued for Portland cement during the third quarter of last year. There were 481 clearance certificat­es issued for children’s toys in the third quarter of last year compared with 282 during the same period in 2016.

The number of these certificat­es issued for safety shoes during the third quarter of last year was 26.

Similarly, for paints also 26 certificat­es were issued in the third quarter of the year 2017 which is an increase of 73.3 per cent over the same period of 2016.
