Taurus, Global United and Jotun start on winning note

MUSCAT: Riding on vital performanc­es by Rajubhai Desai and Mujahid Surve, Taurus XI defeated Aster Hospital by 35 runs in a Junior Cup Knockout match at Muscat Municipali­ty ground 3 in Al Amerat on Friday.

Invited to bat first, Taurus 157 for 9 in 20 overs thanks to Prakash Chirag’s 34 and Chatrapal Sisodia’s 31.

Faisal Pokkakkila­th claimed three wickets, all in one over, while Adi Raja and Umer Rehman bagged two each. Reeling at 47 for 4, Aster Hospital could collect only 122 for 9 in 20 overs. Faisal Pokkakkila­th topscored with 29 while Ravi Bamdev contribute­d 24. Mujahid Surve took three wickets while Adhar Rajubhai Desai claimed two. GLOBAL UNITED In another Junior Cup match, Ibrar Hussain’s strokeful 60 off 36 balls led Global United to a comfortabl­e 23-run victory against OCT Al Nahdha at Muscat Municipali­ty ground 4.

Batting first, Global United posted a robust 173 for 7 in 18 overs in a shortened game due to late start. Amjad Ali Javed (32) and Shoab Mohammed (31) were the other notable scorers. Khalid Moosa bagged three wickets while Riyadh Al Balushi took two. OCT Al Nahdha got off to great start but a sudden batting collapse saw it slump to 118 for 7 after being happily placed at 88 for 1. Finally, 150 was all it could gather before being bundled out in 16.5 overs. Mohammed Al Balushi was the main scorers with 27 off 26. Iftikhar Ahmed and Zahid Mahmood bagged three wickets each while Adeel Mazhar took two. Predviraj’s four-wicket spell powered Jotun to a big 73-run win over Sketch Internatio­nal in a Junior Cup Knockout game at OAC 3 ground in Al Seeb. Brief scores: Jotun CT 175/ 9 in 20 overs (Amal Raj 33 – 6x4, Sanith Nair – 24 – 3x4. Daman 3-23) defeated Sketch Internatio­nal 102 all out in 15.3 overs (Ammar 34 – 4x4, Daman 31 – 5x4.
