Workshop on ILO Maritime Labour Convention 2006
MUSCAT: The Ministry of Transport and Communications, represented by the Directorate-General of Maritime Affairs, organised a national workshop on Maritime Labour Convention 2006 in coordination with the Ministry of Manpower and the International Labour Organization(ILO).
The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr Yahya bin Nasser al Khousaibi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Legal Affairs.
The seminar aims to inform the specialists about the requirements of the agreement in preparation for the accession of the Sultanate.
The seminar was attended by about 30 participants from various relevant bodies including the General Union of Workers in the Sultanate, Oman Ports Companies, Maritime Transport Companies, Ship Owners and a number of Omani seafarers.
The workshop was organised to comply with the international requirements for the implementation of international conventions and to regulate maritime work with all its professional, technical and legal requirements, maritime labour contracts and to guarantee the rights of seafarers in the Sultanate.
The opening ceremony of the workshop was attended by Hamad bin Khamis al Ameri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Manpower for Labour Affairs, a number of advisers, director-generals, ILO experts and Omani seafarers.
