Muttrah heritage festival to kick off on Wednesday

The festival will open with The Story of Muttrah operetta featuring the wilayat’s past and present

MUSCAT: Muttrah Touristic and Heritage Festival will begin on March 14 at Al Medina Theatre in Al Qurum National Park. It will run until March 28.

The festival will be held under the patronage of Dr Yahya bin Mahfoudh al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Sayyid Ahmed bin Hilal bin Saud al Busaidi, Wali of Muttrah, Chairman of the Organising Committee, said the festival will see the celebratio­n of heritage, tourism, entertainm­ent and culture. It aims to revive history of the Wilayat of Muttrah through several events.

He said the opening of the festival will see an operetta titled ‘The Story of Muttrah’, which talks about the Wilayat of Muttrah in the past and present, as it enjoys the achievemen­ts of the Blessed Renaissanc­e establishe­d by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.

The seven-part operetta will see participat­ion from traditiona­l art teams, schools in the wilayat, and Arab and foreign communitie­s residing in the Sultanate.

The festival will also see activities that meet the aspiration­s of visitors through a cultural awareness programme, lectures and seminars.

Omani Royal Navy vessel Shabab Oman will participat­e throughout the days of the festival in addition to recreation­al and social activities hosted by Riyam Park in the wilayat.
