Stassen Tea Lounge T10 Challenge Trophy enters Super Eight stage

MUSCAT: Oman Cricket’s Stassen Tea Lounge T10 Challenge Trophy entered the Super Eight stage with some exciting games and close finishes at Al Amerat grounds.

In next Friday’s last eight games, Abu Maathir will take on Michael XI, Winners XI will face Bombay Blues, Sarco will take on CBD Challenger­s, while Aitken Spence will lock horns with Hunters XI.

The semifinals will be held on April 27 to be followed by the final on April 28 at 7.30 pm under the floodlight­s. Brief scores: 1. Abu Maathir won as Al Khodh CT forfeited the game.

2. Michael XI 91 for 2 in 10 overs (Akbar 22, Deepu 21) beat Newrest Wacasco 66 for 8 in 10 overs (Ali Faizan Mohammed 10. Sachin 3-06, Clive 2 for 10) by 25 runs.

3. Kone XI 68 for 8 in 10 overs (Shajeeshmo­n Arshnveedu 11, Palanivelr­ajan 11. Shahansha 2-08, Charles Jacob 2-12) lost to Winners’ XI 69 for 8 in 10 overs (Abraham Kochumon 15, Sadhiq PM 15. Dileep Chandran 2-14) by 2 wickets.

4. Al Ansari 73 for 3 in 10 overs (Lagde Fazal Salam 28) lost to Bombay Blues 74 for 2 in 8.3 overs (Javed Mubarak 31, Akash Bharat 22 not out) by 8 wickets.

5. Havoc CT 52 for 9 in 10 overs (Masanam Raghunath 23. Pradeep Salian 2-04, Jeethesha Shridhara 2-09, Guru Kotian 2-13) lost to Sarco 56 for 4 in 8.1 overs (Tosim Khan 15, Sujeeth Kumar 12 not out) by 6 wickets.

6. CBD Challenger­s 84 for 3 in 10 overs (Tushar 42 not out, Shushanth 32. Ali 2-08) tied with Royal Challenger­s 84 for 4 in 10 overs (Somu Somanatha 27, Shahil 23) but CBD Challenger­s won due to losing lesser number of wickets.

7. Aitken Spence 85 for 4 in 10 overs (Rauf 32, Don 17) beat SCC 71 for 6 in 10 overs (Prashanth Chandraiha 26. Don 2-09) by 14 runs.

8. Hunters XI 68 for 4 in 10 overs (Mushtaq H 27, Ganesh 12 not out. Muhammed Saqib 2-16) defeated Strikers Oman 47 all out in 8.3 overs (Raishad Parambath 17. Nantha Kumar 4-08, Nimit N 2-08) by 21 runs.

Akshara Srinivasan’s superb runa-ball 55 not out powered Indian School Ghubrah (ISG) to an upset win over strong Women’s Cricket Sohar in the second semifinal at the Ministry of Sports grassy ground 2 in Al Amerat on Sunday.

ISG will take on Indian School Muscat in the final on April 18, which will be followed by the Prize Distributi­on ceremony that will also award Junior League toppers. Anil Khimji, Director, Khimji Ramdas, will be the chief guest for Under-19 prize segment while Chaitanya Khimji of Al Turki Enterprise­s will award the Under-16 and Women’s tournament achievers. Ramesh Nair of White Lotus will honour the toppers of Under-13 competitio­n.

In the first semifinal, ISM Women had defeated Indian Social Club Women by 7 wickets. Chasing a modest target of 62 to win (after ISC was dismissed for 61 in 15 overs), ISM raced to the target in just 9.4 overs, scoring 62 for 3.

In the second semifinal, asked to bat first, Women’s Cricket Sohar posted a healthy total of 152 for 4 in 20 overs thanks to captain Anu Amal’s unbeaten 65 off 45 and Kavita Soudatti’s 27 off 23.

Opener Akshara Srinivasan led the way for ISG, scoring a matchwinni­ng 55 not out to propel her side into the final after a thrilling win off the penultimat­e ball of the 20th over. Nayan Molly (25 off 25) and Saya Channa (21 nout out off 10) were the other notable scorers.

Brief scores: Women’s Cricket Sohar 152 for 4 in 20 overs (Anu Amal 65 not out – 8x4, Kavita Soudatti 27 – 5x4) lost to ISG 153 for 3 in 19.3 overs (Akshara Srinivasan 55 not out – 3x4, Nayan Molly 25 – 1x4, Saya Channa 21 not out – 2x4) by 7 wickets.
