Shura reviews Commercial Companies Law
MUSCAT: Majlis Ash’shura approved the report of the joint committee from the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura regarding the points of disagreement between the two houses of parliament on the draft Commercial Companies Law which account for 113 articles.
On Tuesday Majlis Ash’shura held its 16th ordinary session of the 3rd annual sitting (2017-2018) under the auspices of Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman.
At the beginning of the session Shaikh Ali bin Nasser al Mahrouqi, Secretary-general of Majlis Ash’shura read a letter from Ahmed al Barwani regarding withdrawing his resignation from the council membership.
Dr Salih bin Said Masan, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Committee of Majlis Ash’shura read the report saying that the two houses agreed on 93 articles after introducing some amendments
The council also reviewed the draft Mining Law.
Dr Salih bin Said Masan, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Committee explained that the committee finalised the draft law after adding some observations following a series of meetings and discussions during which the draft law was compared with a number of laws. The committee also held discussions on the law with the Legislative and Legal Committee.
The council reviewed the report prepared by the Food and Water Security Committee regarding the draft law on the treatment and reuse of sewage water. Hilal bin Said al Yahyai, committee chairman emphasised the importance of the new law.
The council approved the proposal for establishing a specialist national physical medicine and rehabilitation centre.
Members said the physical and rehabilitation medicine services provided by the hospitals are limited due to lack of equipment and facilities which there is a need to expand these services as a large number of patients travel abroad for medical treatment.
The council also ratified the proposal calling for the use of tunnels in the construction of roads instead of blasting the mountains.
The council members were informed about the answers provided by ministers and other government officials to a number of parliamentary questions raised by the members including the minister of transport and communications’ response on the delay in converting Port Sultan Qaboos to a tourism port.
