Diam opens new water station in Qurayyat

MUSCAT: The Public Authority for Electricit­y and Water (Diam) on Tuesday operated potable water pumping stations in the Wilayat of Qurayyat by stretching 1,200mm and 1,600 mm water pipes in a distance of 55 km to Daim Al Amerat reservoir in the Wilayat of Al Amerat at a cost of RO 55 million.

Diam hosted journalist­s and media persons to acquaint them about its the efforts it is making to achieve water security. The visit included the strategic water transmissi­on pipelines from Qurayyat to Muscat city.

Engineer Abdullah bin Ahmed al Arafati from the National Water Control and Monitoring Centre presented a visual display explaining that Diam currently dependent on the existing Al Ghubra Plant and the mobile desalinati­on plant in Al Ghubra, the new Al Ghubra Plant, the Suhar Desalinati­on Plant, Barka desalinati­on plants 1, 2 and 3.

A set of desalinati­on plants will be operation during the current year and are expected to meet the demand for water. The most notable of these plants are: the Qurayyat Desalinati­on Plant. The new Suhar Desalinati­on Plant and Barka 4. This is in addition to the Ibri Desalinati­on Plant which will be opened in 2019. Besides, four more desalinati­on plants will be opened in 2021 in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali in South Al Sharqiyah Governorat­e, Masirah Island, the Wilayat of Khasab in Musandam Governorat­e and Wadi Dayqah, Al Arafati said.
