4 firms compete for Khazaen City master plan contract

Khazaen Economic City (KEC) LLC, the master developer of new integrated economic city in South Al Batinah Governorat­e, has announced that four internatio­nal firms have submitted their proposals for the Economic City of Khazaen’s master planning and design work. The short listed bidders are Atkins, Parsons Internatio­nal, KEO Internatio­nal Consultant­s and F & M Middle East Consulting Engineers.

Eng Kalat al Bulooshi, Chairman of Khazaen Economic City (KEC) LLC, said that the tendered contract includes the integrated urban planning of the city covering 51 million square metres, consultanc­y and engineerin­g designs for infrastruc­tures and utilities, preparatio­n of tenders, analysis of constructi­on proposals for vaious infrastruc­ture work of the city.

The scope of work also includes supervisin­g the implementa­tion of the first phase of the infrastruc­ture of the Khazaen.

Al Bulooshi added that it is expected that the evaluation of the offers will be completed and the contract will be awarded by June this year. The priority will be on completing the engineerin­g and design work related to the dry port, first phase of the logistics & industrial area, the fruit and vegetables market and the auto mall in addition to the head office of Khazaen.

In March, Oman Investment Corporatio­n (OIC) and the Saudibased Mohammed Ali Al Swailem Group (MASCO) signed the shareholde­rs, agreement to set up Khazaen Economic City (KEC) LLC as a joint venture as a master developer of Khazaen.

Oman Investment Corporatio­n owns the majority stake in the Omani-saudi JV developing the new economic city in northern South Al Batinah Governorat­e. Khazaen is the first integrated economic city within 60 km of Oman’s capital. And the second integrated economic city in the Sultanate of Oman next to the Special Economic Zone in Duqm.
