OTC volunteers on autism awareness day
ATTENDING an event of significance on the United Nations designated World Autism Awareness Day, graduate students of Oman Tourism College (OTC) volunteered alongside social investors worldwide in support of an event organised by Oman Autism Society. The public gathering promoted awareness on the condition, facilitating knowledge transfer to promote an inclusive attitude built upon the values of equality as the quintessential for local children to grow up as active and respected members of society. Many volunteers came from OTC’S Event Management course to apply their skills in executing the event at Al Qurum Park, featuring theatres, exhibitions, and games corners.
Dr Abdulkarim al Mughairi, Dean of OTC, said, “The community’s awareness of Autism and the challenges faced by people with autism and their families can make an important difference in their lives and the services provided to those who require support with the necessary prerequisite of societal understanding. People with autism are always unique, interesting to those with an open mind, even mysterious, but their inherent value as people and members of society should never be overlooked or doubted. We are all different, and that is what Oman Tourism College hopes to outline in a proactive approach to driving awareness and promoting greater support and inclusion in local communities.”
