40 OMANI EMPLOYEES COMMENCE TRAINING AT SAUD BAHWAN GROUP
MUSCAT: At Saud Bahwan Group, Omanisation is an ongoing process. The group continuously recruits and provides Omani employees with the training and the skills needed to pursue rewarding careers, in various functional areas in senior, mid and junior levels.
Recently, the group welcomed a new batch of 40 Omani recruits and assigned them to a training programme to develop their skill, knowledge and performance capabilities on warehousing operations. The systematically imparted programme is for a duration of 18 months, and upon its successful completion, the trainees would be taken on company rolls as ‘junior storekeeper’.
Elaborating the fundamentals of the programme, the group spokesperson said, “The junior storekeeper course has been formulated by the National College of Automotive Technology (NCAT) in conjunction with Pearson, a Uk-based organisation to which NCAT is affiliated for training courses. The comprehensive course trains candidates on the specific requirements of a spare parts storekeeper.”
The course is designed with a mix of academic and practical components. While the academic component (class room training) is delivered in NCAT premises, the practical ‘on-the-job’ training is to be imparted at Saud Bahwan Group’s highly automated Parts Distribution Centre, located at Al Amerat.
The course curriculum covers key warehousing operations such as logistics, supply chain management, inventory control, organisation behaviour, bork ethics, basics of IT, general English and Mathematics, safety and concepts like Kaizen, 6S, Ganji Gambatsu, Hairi Hato, Haijunka, and Just In Time, amongst others.
“Indeed, the comprehensive course is expected to do more than merely impart knowledge. Throughout the training, students are encouraged to inculcate latent talents & build confidence in their abilities — gaining life skills,” notes the spokesperson. Over the years, Saud Bahwan Group has been periodically conducting training programmes for the benefit of Omani colleagues. A significant number of Omanis have benefited from these programmes that are designed to bring national employees at par with the latest SOPS and best practices followed around the world.
The group’s Parts Distribution Centre (PDC) is a sophisticated setup that uses custom-built software to ensure global standards of service —while maintaining lean and highly efficient operations. These include the use of electronic catalogues, extensive networks and satellite links to principals, amongst others.
Through continuous training and skills development of Omani staff members, SBG goes beyond mere numbers and creates rewarding careers for Omani nationals. The group’s high standards ultimately benefit its customers. No wonder then that, over the years, a plethora of awards — locally, regionally and from across the globe — have been bestowed upon the group.
Saud Bahwan Group endeavours to make a meaningful contribution to the vital national priority of Omanisation with the personal involvement and guidance of its Chairman, Mohammed Saud Bahwan.
