The Omani Human Rights Commission (OHRC) dealt with 52 cases during the first quarter (January–march), which varied from monitoring and receiving communications to providing guidance on human rights, said a statement.

The number of communications received by the Committee during this period reached 10, including four reports on the right to adequate housing and three reports on the right to live in dignity.

The Committee monitored 13 subjects including the right to physical integrity, personal freedom, family safety, freedom of opinion and expression, work, decent living and the right to education.

The Committee, represented by the Monitoring and Receiving Department, also provided guidance on some 29 subjects that did not fall within its mandate, seven cases on labour, six cases pending before the judiciary, three cases on issues of maintenance and custody, two cases of political asylum, one case on the grievance of an administrative decision, among others.

The Committee monitors all communications related to violations or violations of human rights and fundamental freedom in coordination with the competent authorities, in addition to advising the complainants on the procedures to be followed to resolve their issues outside the jurisdiction of the Committee and to provide them with field visits.
