MUSCAT: The Fundamentals and Administration Department of the College of Nursing at SQU, organised a workshop on the ‘Integration of Technology into Nursing Education’ recently.

Around 32 people, including academics and administrative faculty from the four departments of the College of Nursing, attended the event. The aim of the activity was to introduce new technology used in nursing education and to give the participants an opportunity to improve their teaching skills so that they could maximise students’ learning outcome.

The workshop was opened by Dr Omar al Rawajfah, Dean of College of Nursing, and Dr Sulaiman al Sabei, Assistant Professor at College of Nursing. Dr Leodoro Labrague facilitated the workshop in order to reach the intended learning outcomes.

The workshop began after an interactive icebreaker given by Arwa Obeidat. During the workshop, the experts discussed about the flipped classroom model (Dr Mickael Joseph), Edmodo programme (Arcalyd Rose Cayaban), game-based learning (Dr Jahara Hayudini), Prezi software (Dr Omar al Omari), and many other technologies used in nursing education (Jansi Natarajan).

Finally, Dr Suja Karkada encouraged the participants to use these various technologies in their teaching and highlighted the importance of interactive teaching methods to foster critical thinking skills among students.

The workshop proved to be a very dynamic and interactive event with numerous questions from the participants. The need to hold such events on a regular basis was emphasised by the participants.

The participants expressed their overall appreciation to the Fundamentals and Administration Department for providing them with the opportunity to obtain up-to-date information about technology and strategies that are available to increase their students’ motivation and learning.
