Global phenomenon ‘Tough Mudder’ heading to Oman

-

MUSCAT: Sabco Sports announced today a multi-year international licensing partnership with leading sport, active lifestyle and media brand, Tough Mudder Inc..

The partnership will commence with two ‘Tough Mudder’ events being hosted for the first time in the Sultanate. The highly anticipated event will take place in Muscat on November 30, 2018, with kick Salalah also due to host an event (details tbc).

An experience unlike any other, ‘Tough Mudder’ is no ordinary fun run. It’s a teamwork-focused, epicobstacle-crammed, and muddy funfilled challenge. The unique experience tests participants toughness and stamina whilst putting a smile on their faces.

Whether participants are seasoned endurance athletes or just starting their fitness journey there is a ‘Tough Mudder’ event made for everyone. The event formats coming to Oman will be the exciting new ‘Tough Mudder 5K’ and the ‘Mini Mudder’ event for children.

It is expected that more event formats will take place in Oman in coming years as the thrilling and challenging event expands in the Sultanate and becomes an anticipated fixture.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Nic Cartwright, Managing Director of Sabco Sports, said: “We believe this will become the biggest participation event in the calendar. ‘Tough Mudder’ is such a fun event that is enjoyed all over the world and Oman has such great venues to host these two events.”

He added: “We cannot wait to run the first event during the Khareef season in Salalah and make this the best possible event for Salalah. The Muscat event is going to take place in the heart of the city’s emerging urban development “Madinat Al Irfan” which encompasses, the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre — being developed by our venue partner, Oman Tourism Development Company (OMRAN). The land there is the perfect location for the event. We will see a great course, an exciting Mudder Village as well as a link up with the OCEC and other activity on site on the day. We are very excited to be working with Omran as the Location Partner for the Muscat event.”

Oman is the second country in the Middle East to host a ‘Tough Mudder’ event, the first being the United Arab Emirates in 2016. With more than 3 million global participants across five continents, ‘Tough Mudder’ has offerings ranging from accessible yet rewarding challenges, such as ‘Tough Mudder Half ’ (5-mile event excluding fire, ice and electricity), to competitive events, such as ‘Tough Mudder X’ (the toughest mile on the planet) and ‘World’s Toughest Mudder ‘(24-hour endurance event).

In 2018 Tough Mudder, Inc. and its licensees will host an unprecedented 150+ events across nearly a dozen countries, such as the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Canada and three new countries, South Africa, Oman and the Philippines, welcoming participants worldwide into a global community that lives courage, personal accomplishment, teamwork and fun.

“We have heard so much about Oman, and it is a country that is growing on the world stage. We are very impressed by the plans that Sabco Sports have presented for our events and we are very happy to see two events in the first year,” said Will Dean, Tough Mudder, Inc. CEO and Co-founder.
