- SPORTS REPORTER MUSCAT, MAY 12

Oman’s national cycling team recorded a creditable performance in the Man Corsica World Racing cycling event which was held in France for five days for 700 km. As many as 83 bikers took part in this world cycling from 19 countries.

Oman double category team finished at third place after completing 700 km within 57 hours. In the individual category, Shihab al Qamshui finished the race in 58 hours and 17 minutes.

The Oman Cycling Committee had participated in this international event by sending three riders namely Shihab al Qamshui, Mohammed al Shandodi (individual category) and Hatim al Bousheri (double category).

Oman had hosted a cycling event last March as the only Middle East country for purposes of promoting Oman’s tourism.

“We are very proud with the Oman national team’s result as they recorded a third place in the Man Corsica World Racing event in France. We were very eager to take part in this essential event. I hope our bikers got the required experience from the professional bikers,” Saif al Rushaidi, Chairman of Oman Cycling Committee, said.

“In this kind of competitions, there is no assistant technical team for repairing of bikes. Bikers have to depend on themselves in case of any maintenance required for bike or the route. Also, the biker should challenge with time as he has to finish 700 kilometres within four days only,” Saif al Rushaidi added.
