Ministers inspect flood protection dams

GUARD: Salalah dam is designed to hold 77.2 million cubic metres of water; Authoritie­s discuss preparator­y plans to limit impacts

SALALAH: Ahmed bin Abdullah al Shuhi, Minister of Regional Municipali­ties and Water Resources, Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, and a number of officials made an inspection visits to a number of dams in the Governorat­e of Dhofar, Including the flood protection dam in Salalah City and the groundwate­r recharge dam on Wadi Sahalnoot, as part of the efforts to deal with the tropical situation.

The Minister of Regional Municipali­ties and Water Resources stressed the readiness of all dams in the Sultanate to receive quantities of rainfall expected to fall according to the storage capacity designed for each dam.

He explained that the flood protection dam in Salalah City is designed to hold large amounts of water with a storage capacity of 77.2 million cubic metres. This dam contribute­s to the protection against the dangers to the areas below the dam. SEARCH AND RESCUE The Search and Rescue Sector at the National Emergency Management System held a coordinati­on meeting today with the government units, members of the sector to discuss the preparator­y aspects and developing suitable plans to deal with the climate conditions in a bid to limit its impacts.

The meeting was chaired by Maj Gen Abdullah bin Ali al Harthy, Chairman of the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA), in the presence of Director General of Civil Defence.

DISSEMINAT­ION OF CLIMATE INFORMATIO­N Ali bin Khalfan al Jabri, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Informatio­n, met on Thursday at the Ministry’s HQS’ with editors-in-chief and GMS of the private radio stations to discuss the developmen­ts of the tropical conditions expected to affect the Sultanate. The meeting included a briefing about the condition by specialist­s from the Public Authority for Civil Aviation and Meteorolog­y.
