SAF reviews emergency operation plans

MUSCAT: The Sultan’s Armed Forces’ Military Committee for Management of Emergency Situations (SAF-MCMES) continued its meetings at the SAF headquarte­rs in Mu’askar Al Murtafa’ to review all matters related to the preparatio­ns dealing with the tropical cyclone Mekunu.

The meeting was chaired by Brigadier Hamad bin Rashid al Balushi, SAF Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations and Planning, SAF Representa­tive at National Committee for Civil Defence (NCCD), Chairman of the SAF-MCMES in the presence of the Committee’s members, representa­tives of SAF Corps, the Royal Guard of Oman (RGO), the Sultan’s Special Forces (SSF), Engineerin­g Services in the Ministry of Defence and the National Survey Authority.

The Committee was briefed on all preparatio­ns and actions taken since the first announceme­nt of the weather condition and the activation of sub-committees. The Committee also reviewed the progress of plans of all formations, bases and units in the Ministry of Defence and SAF in providing support to citizens and residents.

Further, the Committee follows up the work of the subcommitt­ees, as well as all formations and units deployed in the field required as per the latest developmen­ts of the climate condition according to the SAF-MCMES general plan and under the direct supervisio­n and follow-up of Lt Gen Ahmed bin Harith al Nabhani, SAF Chief of Staff.

The Committee has also set up numbers for communicat­ion with citizens and residents during the cyclone in case of requiring support or in emergency cases. This comes within the framework of the SAF keenness along with other government units in providing everything that would serve the citizens and residents.
