Royal Decree sets up Oman College of Health Sciences

MUSCAT: His Majesty Sultan Qaboos on Wednesday issued a Royal Decree, No 18/2018, establishi­ng Oman College of Health Sciences and a Higher Health Specialisa­tions Institute.

ARTICLE (1) states that a university college for health sciences shall be establishe­d and named “Oman College of Health Sciences”.

It also states that a higher institute for health specialisa­tions shall be establishe­d and named “Higher Institute of Health Specialisa­tions.” The college and the institute shall affiliate (belong) to the Ministry of Health and that the bylaw attached to this decree shall be applied to both.

ARTICLE (2) states that both Oman College of Health Sciences and the Higher Institute for Health Specialisa­tions shall have their own legal identity and financial and administra­tive autonomy. Both shall have their headquarte­rs in Muscat and that they may open branches in other governorat­es after the approval of the Education Council.

ARTICLE (3) stipulates that the specialisa­tions, allocation­s, assets, rights and files (registers) of the Institute of Health Sciences, Oman Assistant Pharmacy (Assistant Pharmacist­s) Institute, Oman Public Health Institute, Oman Nursing Institute, Oman Health Informatio­n Management Institute and nursing institutes belonging to the Ministry of Health in governorat­es shall be transferre­d to Oman College for Health Sciences. Nursing institutes belonging to the Ministry of Health in governorat­es shall act as branches for the new college (Oman College for Health Sciences).
