Barakat and Co gear up for athletics challenge

Oman’s athletics star Barakat al Harthy, will commence the athletics team’s participat­ion at the Asian Games as he will compete in the 100 metres on Saturday.

The newbie in the squad Fatik bait Qaswar will be part of the action as well on the same day.

Moreover, the Oman sailing team will begin their participat­ion as they will take part in the Laser 49 races category on Friday.

The Oman beach volleyball team represente­d by Mazin al Hasmi and Nouh al Jalbobi will take on Palestine while Oman team A including Ahmed al Hosni and Haitham al Suraiqi will face off against China on Friday.

BARAKAT TO START Oman will have Barakat and Fatik competing in the 100 metres heats. Also, the athletics team will participat­e at the 200 metres and the relay 4x100 metres.

In the 200 metres that will take place on Tuesday, Mohammed al Saadi and Ammar al Saifi will also take to the track for the Sultanate team. Oman’s 4x100 metre team will be represente­d by Barakat, Al Saadi, Rashid al Asmi, Obaid al Qarni and Fatik.

The Oman beach volleyball team secured its position at the last 16 round as team A represente­d by Mazin al Hashmi and Nouh al Jalboubi defeated Maldives team 2-0.

Oman head coach Khalifa al Jabri along with Hamood al Hasani, administra­tive member, continued their supervisio­n and directions to the team players for the coming last 16 round as this is knock out stages and there is no chances except winning to qualify for the next round. Oman coach noted down some weakness points for the competing teams and instructed the players to focus on that areas. Omani sailors Mousab al Hinai and Waleed al Kindi will begin Oman sailing team’s participat­ion at the Asian Games as they participat­e at race 49 IR laser on Friday while sailor Abdul Malik al Hinai will take part at the laser boats competitio­ns on August 31.

Oman sailing team had enough training sessions at the Indonesia sea as they prepared as per the programme from the organising committee. Omani sailors are keen to register good results for the Sultanate in this Asian participat­ion.

HOCKEY TEAM Oman national hockey team will play their third match in the Asian games today as they take on Thailand. Oman have suffered two losses, first a 2-1 defeat to Bangladesh followed by a 10-0 drubbing by Pakistan.

Oman team’s technical committee instructed the players to ignore the negative areas and work on boosting the positive sides to register the first win for the team against Thailand. NEW RECORD FOR OMANI

SWIMMER Oman’s young swimmer Issa al Adawi registered a new record as he participat­ed at the 100 metre freestyle event in swimming and registered a timing of 53.03 seconds. This is a new Omani swimming record. However, all Omani swimmers have exited from the competitio­n.
