A woman was killed while her husband and two children suffered serious injuries when the car they were travelling in from Salalah collided with another vehicle in Haima in Al Wusta Governorate, some 20 kilometres off the misty city.

The deceased has been identified as Biji Alex, wife of Alex from Chathanur, Kollam in Kerala. They were on their way back to Suhar after spending holidays in Salalah.

“The accident happened early on Friday morning and the victim has been identified,” the Royal Oman Police said.

“The body will be repatriated according to the family’s wish after necessary formalities. However, a case has been registered here,” the Haima police head added.

Eyewitnesses told the Observer that the saloon car lost control after one of its tyres got punctured and rolled down off the road.

This is the third road accident that is reported from Haima in less than 10 days. Seven people died while five sustained injuries on August 13 when their vehicles had a head-on collision in the wilayat. In another gruesome accident, 6 people, including 4 Indians and 2 Emiratis were perished on August 20.

The ROP has urged motorists to take extra care while driving on long trips and to follow defensive driving in the wake of the accidents.
