School academic year begins today

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Education has completed the preparatio­ns for the new academic year 2018-2019 which begins today.

Educationa­l supervisor­s, educationa­l administra­tion supervisor­s and teaching staff will attend schools in all governorat­es of the Sultanate.

This year the number of teachers is expected to reach 56,091 as well as 10,868 administra­tors and technician­s.

Dr Madeeha bint Ahmed al Shaibaniya­h, Minister of Education, visited the Al Masfa School for Girls in the Wilayat of Qurayat which will be operated this year to follow up the preparatio­ns for the academic year.

A committee tasked with following preparatio­ns for the new academic year chaired by Shaikh Mohammed bin Hamdan al Toobi, Adviser at the Ministry of Education, has ensured readiness for the academic year as a number of new schools have been completed and will be operationa­l this year as well as maintenanc­e and additional works in the existing schools.

The committee also made sure that adequate human cadres have been provided at schools and that the printing of textbooks has been completed.

According to the ministeria­l decision No 146/2018, the academic year 2018-2019 begins on August 26, and ends on June 27, 2019 for staff while the academic year for students (grade 1-12) at public and private schools begins on September 2, 2018.

The mid-year vacation for the educationa­l and administra­tive and teaching staff at all the directorat­es of education in the governorat­es will be from February 3 to 7, 2019 and the academic year will resume on February 10, 2019.

Earlier, the Ministry of Education has finalised the appointmen­t procedures for 1,187 Omani graduates who will join schools from this academic year.
