Oman, Japan aim to bolster trade, investment ties

MUSCAT: Gen Sultan bin Mohammed al Numani, Minister of the Royal Office, received in his office on Monday Kentaro Sonoura, Special Adviser to the Japanese Prime Minister, and his delegation.

The two sides exchanged cordial conversati­ons and reviewed the march of the good historic relations binding them in all fields and developing such relations to achieve the joint interests of the two friendly countries. DEFENCE Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy, Minister Responsibl­e for Defence Affairs, also received Kentaro Sonoura in his office at Mu’askar Bait Al Falaj on Monday

The two sides reviewed fields of the existing cooperatio­n between the two friendly countries and discussed matters of common concern.

The meeting was attended by Rear Admiral Abdullah bin Khamis al Raisi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman. COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY Dr Ali bin Masoud al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry, also received Kentaro Sonoura, and his delegation in his office on Monday.

The two sides reviewed the trade exchanges between the two countries, the Japanese investment­s in the Sultanate and opportunit­ies for joint cooperatio­n, especially in the field of renewable energy projects and electricit­y generation projects, food security and long-term financing for infrastruc­ture projects.

The two sides also discussed investment in industrial estates and logistics sector.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Public Establishm­ent for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and the delegation of the guest. TOURISM Ahmed bin Nasser bin Hamad al Mehrzi, Minister of Tourism, received Kentaro Sonoura and his delegation.

The guest is on an official severalday visit to the Sultanate during which he meets with several officials with the objective of promoting aspects of cooperatio­n between the two friendly countries in many fields.

The two sides shared ideas and proposals on aspects of cooperatio­n between the two sides in tourism field and contributi­ng to promoting for tourism potentials enjoyed by the Sultanate, besides studying the potential of signing a memorandum of understand­ing (MOU) in the tourism field between the two countries. VISIT TO DUQM The Japanese guest and his delegation also visited the Special Economic Zone in Al Duqm to explore the investment opportunit­ies available in the region. Sonoura said “We know that this area is in a very strategic location, so we are looking at the investment opportunit­ies available and we will evaluate each project separately.”

Yahya bin Said al Jabri, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Special Economic Zone Authority in A’duqm, briefed the guests about the strategic geographic­al location of the region, the incentives offered by the authority to investors and the important projects currently being implemente­d.
