Ministers discuss ‘City Cancer Challenge 2025’ initiative
MUSCAT: Sayyid Saud bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of State, and Governor of Muscat received in his office on Monday Princess Dina Mired al Hussein, President-elect of the International Union Against Cancer (IUAC).
During the meeting, a presentation was made on the ‘City Cancer Challenge 2025’ initiative, which aims to work with cities around the world to improve health services, especially in terms of best practices in the treatment and control of cancer. Princess Dina stressed the importance of finding joint global efforts to include all countries in the world in the face of this global health challenge that alarms all concerned in the world.
The Minister praised the leading role of IUAC in boosting the global communication and support for countries’ policies in the areas of health. He also stressed that the Governorate of Muscat will make all efforts possible for the success of this initiative, in cooperation with all relevant governmental and NGOS in the Sultanate.
The Princess expressed her pleasure in visiting the Sultanate, praising the governmental efforts exerted in the field of health care, especially in the fight against cancer, and the tangible progress in the level of hospital services.
She also praised the role played by the Omani Cancer Association in supporting government efforts to raise awareness of the disease.
The meeting was attended by Dr Wahid bin Ali al Kharousi, Chairman of the OCA and Dr Kari Adam, Executive Director of the IUAC.
Meanwhile, Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour al Hasani, Minister of Information, also received in his office Princess Dina, and jury members of City Cancer Challenge 2025.
During the meeting, the challenge programme was discussed and its importance reviewed and the great role played by the various media in highlighting what would improve the cancer patients and the bodies and associations that promote and develop the skills of cancer patients.
The meeting also reviewed cooperation between the Ministry of Information and the OCA. — ONA
