Oman-india Sports Meet begins

MUSCAT: Oman-india Sports Meet (OISM) kicked off at Al Amerat Municipali­ty ground with cricket tournament­s.

OISM is organised by Indian Social Club Malayalam Wing under the aegis of Indian Social Club and Embassy of India and is supported by the Ministry of Sports Affairs. This is a special event as an ‘India @ 70’ project in conjunctio­n with the 70th anniversar­y of India’s independen­ce.

First round of T-20 matches has been successful­ly completed with 16 teams participat­ed on Friday. Interestin­gly, 4 Omani teams took part in the tournament, other 12 were Indian teams.

The first match was played between OCT Amerat and Silk Gate. Silk Gate won by 6 wickets and Donald Taylor of Silk Gate was adjudged as the top scorer with 52 runs in 33 balls. Al Mada Engineerin­g defeated OCT Al Hail by 77 runs and Jaleel Mohammd of Al Mada scored the highest with 54 runs in 26 balls.

In another match, Basta CT defeated OCT Al Nadha by won by 10 wickets and Deepak Gakhar became the top scorer with 63 runs in 23 balls.

In a very interestin­g match, Omani team OCT Seeb defeated Michael XI by 8 wickets and Shuaib Ismail of OCT Seeb became the top scorer with 68 runs in 44 balls. Doughlas OHI defeated Al Fairuz CT by 8 wickets and Santosh Kumar took 60 runs in 35 balls and became the top scorer.

Muscat Masters defeated Zubair with 19 runs and Michael Winston Bose became the top scorer with 34 runs in 20 balls. In another crucial match, Zawawi Powertech beat Unique Elegent by 62 runs and Arun Dev scored highest with 30 runs in 18 balls.

Team Orange Parkway beat PDO RAHRC by 7 wickets and Sanjay Dhananjaya­n scored 65 runs in 24 balls and became the top scorer.

The tournament­s were conducted with the support of Oman Cricket and was witnessed by its board member Dad al Balushi.

A profession­al team of umpires approved by Oman Cricket conducted all the games smoothly and effectivel­y. The umpires are — Jeason, Sujith, Mahesh, Gopakumar, Mohsin, Mujahid Surve, Mujahid A K, Sagir, Vinod, Shakir, Manjunath and Jaypal.

The cricket game was conducted under the consultanc­y of Denson Jacob, who was assisted by PR Sasikumar, Joint Secretary of Sports and Entertainm­ent Committee of Malayalam Wing and was supported by Anilal, Dencil Yesudasan, Sathish K, Rajagopal, Priya Raj, Madhu, Jayadas, Shaan, P Menon, Prajeesh, Shijith, Prasanth Parameswar­an and CK Raj. Malayalam Wing office was represente­d by its Convener T Bhaskaran, PM Muraleedha­ran, TP Kuttiali and ENK Kriteesh.

The matches will conclude on September 8 with finals to be played at the turf pitch of Oman Cricket in Al Amerat which will be attended by dignitarie­s from Ministry of Sports Affairs, Embassy of India and Indian Social Club Oman.

Trophies for the winners and the runners-up will be awarded at the Grand Finale of Oman-india Sports Meet to be held in November when outstandin­g sportsmen of Oman and India are likely to be honoured.
