OPAL TO HOST SECOND ANNUAL SPORTS EVENT

MUSCAT: After the overwhelmi­ng response to their first annual sports event held in 2017, the Oman Society for Petroleum Services (Opal), is all set to host their annual sports event for the year 2018 from October 5 to 21.

The event will be an opportunit­y for oil and gas profession­als to boost their sports skills and cooperatio­n with each other. It will also enhance Opal’s partnershi­p with the society.

Speaking at the press conference held at the Kempinski Hotel Muscat, Musallam al Mandhri, CEO, discussed how the event further strengthen­s the reputation of Opal as an organisati­on for hosting world-class sporting events, forums and conference­s. “We are delighted to host our 2nd Annual Sports event that connects people in Oil & Gas industry and ideas resulting in the success of an event,” he said.

Abdullah Sinani, Executive Manager, HR said, “The Opal sports tournament for this year includes seven sports competitio­ns, some of which are open to all for participat­ion and some exclusivel­y for members of the associatio­n. The tournament is divided into three sports groups:

The first group: It consists of football, cricket and bowling and starts on October 5. The winning teams will be crowned after the final football match at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher on November 14.

The second group: After the success of the Opal Mountain Bike race last year and the participat­ion of more than 102 riders, we are ready for the second version on a new track specially designed for this competitio­n. It will be held on October 6 and is open to both members, and non-members.

The third group: Opal Family Sports Day is open to all participan­ts and will be held in Jebal Al-sifah on 19th October and will have three different sports competitio­n — Opal NOS, Opal Golf and Opal Marathon (10 km for adults, 3 km for kids).

The organising committee has allocated valuable prizes for all the winners in each group.

Open to members only, the first match of cricket will begin on October 5, and will be held at one of the cricket stadiums in Muscat. Abdullah further explained that the Opal Sports event is held with the support of the Ministry of Social Developmen­t and the Omani Federation of Athletics and the Omani Federation of air daggers and organised by Sabco Sports and Performanc­e Corporatio­n.
