Royal Hospital organises open day for Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

MUSCAT: Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahd bin Mahmoud al Said, Assistant Secretaryg­eneral of the Office of Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, the Hematology and Oncology Department at the National Oncology Centre in the Royal Hospital organised on Sunday an open day on the occasion of the Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

The event held at the main conference ballroom in the hospital in the presence of Dr Sultan bin Yarub al Busaidy, Adviser of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, Dr Qasim al Salimi, Director-general of Royal Hospital, Dr Basim al Bahrani, Director of National Oncology Centre, along with medical cadres, administra­tors and community members.

The open day highlighte­d the cancerous tumours in children in terms of the causes, symptoms and prevention methods. It also aimed at raising the awareness among the participan­ts on the importance of early detection of tumours in promoting the chances of recovery. In addition to familiaris­ing the community members on the importance of physical activity and healthy eating habits.

Aisha al Habsi, Head of Nursing at the Paediatric Oncology Department of the National Centre, in her welcome speech mentioned that the World Health Organizati­on (WHO) allocated the Children Cancer Awareness Month in September every year. Therefore, the internatio­nal communitie­s in various countries organise many related awareness events in order to raise the level of awareness on different cancerous tumours that are common in children.
