New Technical College to come up in Musandam

MUSCAT: The Education Council has held its third meeting of the year under the chairmansh­ip of Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Education Council

The Minister of the Diwan of Royal Court and Chairman of the Education Council expressed, on behalf of the Education Council, his sincere congratula­tions to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos on the occasion of the new Hijri year 1440, praying to Allah The Almighty to protect His Majesty and bestow on him good health, wellness and a long life, and to make this year a year of goodness prosperity and developmen­t for Oman and its people and the Arab and Islamic nations and the world at large.

Based on the council’s interest in expanding the horizons of higher education and upgrading its system in line with the developmen­t aspiration­s and trends in the country, the council approved the establishm­ent of the Technical College in the Governorat­e of Musandam to contribute to providing the Omani labour market with Omani competenci­es in the technologi­cal and technical fields, in line with the economic developmen­ts taking place in the Sultanate.

In light of the keenness to develop specificat­ions and standards related to the constructi­on of buildings of higher education institutio­ns to contribute to the preparatio­n of appropriat­e educationa­l facilities and in accordance with the internatio­nal standards in force in this regard, the council adopted the regulation of technical specificat­ions and standards of buildings of higher education institutio­ns as a reference for these government­al and private institutio­ns when they build their permanent facilities or the expansion and developmen­t of its existing facilities.

The council directed to proceed with the completion of appropriat­e procedures for their applicatio­ns.

The council also discussed the regulation of student housing, which aims to establish the appropriat­e conditions for these accommodat­ions and in order to ensure the provision of an environmen­t suitable for students. The council directed to take appropriat­e actions in their regard.

In a related context, the council reviewed the memorandum of its Secretaria­t-general on the most prominent projects that are engaged by the education authoritie­s to implement during the current stage and discuss the required support.
