Masirah Hospital to get CT scan unit

FASTER DIAGNOSIS: PDO to fund equipment worth RO 280,000

-

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Health (MOH) signed on Tuesday a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to purchase CT Scan System equipment worth RO 280,000 for Masirah Hospital funded by the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO).

The agreement was signed by Dr Darweesh Saif al Maharbi, Moh’s Under-secretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs, and PDO’S External Affairs and Value Creation Director Abdul Amir Abdul Hussein al Ajmi.

Dr Al Maharbi emphasised the significance of public and private sector partnerships for the general interest, praising PDO’S initiative.

PDO External Affairs and Value Creation Director, Abdul Amir al Ajmi stressed the Company’s ongoing commitment to partnerships and cooperation with government institutions to serve the development of the country, including with regard to health services provided to citizens.

He said: “Health and safety is one of the pillars of our social investment programme and we are committed to supporting Omani communities with targeted efforts to help where and when we can.

“The funding addresses specific needs and has come after consultation with the Ministry of Health. The donation will improve the speed and accuracy of diagnosis which will in turn lead to enhanced medical support.”

Masirah Hospital provides services to more than 30 villages and meets all the needs of the wilayat’s residents and tourists. The provision of the CT scan service is a new addition to the health services provided by the hospital as, currently, most patients who require CT scan services were shifted either to Sur Hospital or Muscat hospitals by the Royal Air Force of Oman or the hospital ambulances.

Moreover, the provision of the CT scan service in Masirah Hospital will reduce the need to travelling thereby minimising exposure to road hazards and allowing faster diagnosis for critical cases.

It will also lead to better treatments to patients and a reduction of the load on other hospitals.
