- BUSINESS REPORTER MUSCAT, SEPT 25

Nama Group (NG) concluded its Staff Volunteering Competition – part of its Wiyakum Programme of projects — designed to encourage voluntary work and instill a culture of volunteerism in the Group’s workforce. The closing ceremony of the competition was held under the auspices of Eng Ali Issa Shamas, CEO of Dhofar Power Company (DPC), a member of Nama Group, and in the presence of a number of officials from the Group in Dhofar Governorate.

This competition is one of the Group’s sustainability policy initiatives aimed at highlighting the value of volunteer work amongst employees and encouraging them to build sustainable development projects as part of their contribution to local communities and national economy. In the past few years, Nama Group has developed its staff competencies in volunteerism through specific training courses as well as advising them to join voluntary activities in collaboration with local institutions.

During the closing ceremony, the “Creative Team” from Oman Electricity Transmission Company (OETC), a member of Nama Group, was named the winner for its project on generating irrigation water in Dhofar Governorate. The project centres on the use of an efficient solar powered device to transform the moisture in the air into water for irrigation purposes and confront desertification, besides producing electricity for daily use. Based on the project benefits, the team was invited by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to participate in one of its activities. Nama Group will develop the project as a sustainable enterprise.

In addition, the Group honoured “Al Nour Team” of Majan Electricity Company (MJEC), a member of Nama Group, for conducting a number of voluntary awareness projects, utilising solar energy systems. Also, OETC’S “Takatuf Team” was honoured for its welfare initiatives to help low-incomes families.
