Rustaq college students elect council members

Elections for the Students Advisory Council were held at the Rustaq College of Education (RCE) recently. Seventeen candidates were in the fray. The elections witnessed a large number of college students voting to choose their candidates for the council membership. They exercised their vote to elect a head and a deputy, besides three committee heads.

The voting process began at Al Yaarba Hall in Rustaq College campus under the supervisio­n of the college Dean Dr Ahmed bin Humaid al Badri. Dr Anwar al Shiyadi, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs and the Head of the Students Advisory Council Elections Committee, were also present.

An electronic link was created to accelerate the voting process, while ballot boxes were placed inside the campus.

One of the nominees, Abdullah bin Sulaiman al Nabhani, who is specialise­d in Biology, said his participat­ion “came from my faith and belief in the importance of students advisory councils in every educationa­l institute”.

“I decided to file my nomination in order to become a link of communicat­ion between students and the college administra­tion.”

Another nominee, Intisar al Sammom, specialise­d in Business Management, said, “My participat­ion came with a deep desire to make changes in issues related to students. I have a big wish to head the council.”

Ahead of the election, advertisem­ents and announceme­nts were made available in the campus and through social media with videos introducin­g the Students Advisory Council and highlighti­ng its objectives.
