Duqm Refinery launches ICV opportunit­ies exhibition

Duqm Refinery’s In-country Value Opportunit­ies Exhibition was inaugurate­d yesterday at the Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre. The exhibition showcases business and training opportunit­ies for SME’S and young Omanis. These opportunit­ies are in line with national objectives of prioritisi­ng opportunit­ies that would arise from constructi­on work of the project to be dedicated to growing local businesses and up skill youth. The exhibition in Muscat is a follow up to a similar forum organised in Duqm a week ago.

The exhibition was inaugurate­d by Salim bin Nasser al Aufi, Undersecre­tary, Ministry of Oil and Gas. Al Aufi hailed the positive role played by Duqm Refinery in the local community and the positive feedback on the ICV forum held the week before in Duqm Crowne Plaza which lasted for three days.

On this occasion, Al Aufi stated: “Duqm Refinery In-country Value Programme comes as part of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said attention given to develop local human capital and local SMES as two of the main pillars to build strong economy in the Sultanate. Also, the programme aims at showcasing the opportunit­ies for Omani youth so that they can compete on the ones that fit their specialisa­tions and future aspiration­s.”

Al Aufi further added: “In-country Value programme plays an important role in further strengthen­ing the national economy by providing the chance for SMES to contribute on building mega projects. These programmes also prepares national manpower to work in the major economic projects in the country as one of the main factors for its success.”

The recent Duqm Refinery ICV event in Duqm succeeded in attracting many youngsters who sought business and training opportunit­ies in the project. The Muscat ICV exhibition aims at reaching wider sections of Omani youth to know more about those opportunit­ies and to meet with the company officials to have a clear image about those opportunit­ies. The event concludes today, October 1.

Commenting on the event, Na’sha bint Mohammed al Falahia, General Manger for Corporate Affairs in Duqm Refinery said: “The ICV programme is one of the main milestones in our project journey for its role in supporting developmen­t efforts in Oman. This support can be seen in the business and training opportunit­ies for Omani youth to prove themselves and to benefit from those opportunit­ies during constructi­on phase and after the operationa­l phases.”.

“We are glad to see the positive interactio­n from the local community on social media and in the event held recently in Duqm and we look forward to contribute in the developmen­t of Oman’s economy and the Omani youth to become business and industry leaders in the future”.

Jasim bin Hassan al Ajmi, Head of Corporate Sustainabi­lity at Duqm Refinery, stated: “Our ICV programme is one of the key elements in the sustainabi­lity of the project, as it will generate business opportunit­ies that will contribute in the progress of the project in the future. The ICV programme will also contribute in shaping and polishing the skills of Omani youth in various fields to empower them to grow in their career path to serve our beloved country Oman”.

A number of public and private institutio­ns will take part in the Exhibition such as SEZAD, Takatuf Oman, Al Raffd Fund, and Public Authority for Small and Medium Enterprise­s (Riyada), and the three EPC global contractor­s.

The ICV programme will contribute in shaping and polishing the skills of Omani youth in various fields to empower them to grow in their career path
