Seminar on teacher training

MUSCAT: The Oman National Commission for Education, Culture and Science (ONCECS) on Sunday held a seminar on “Teacher Rehabilita­tion — Standards and Competenci­es”, coinciding with the Teachers Day, which falls on October 5.

The seminar aims at highlighti­ng the Sultanate’s efforts to pay attention to the training of teachers and cadres associated with education in all discipline­s and fields.

The first session was opened with a working paper on “Empowering the Teacher with Confidence and Proficienc­y: The Experience of the Specialise­d Centre for Teacher Vocational Training in the Training of the Omani Teacher” presented by Amal bint Abdullah al Rashedi and Badr bin Juma al Khaett.

Dr Aisha al Harthi and Dr Fawzia al Siyabi from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) presented a working paper entitled “Preparing a Teacher with Global Competenci­es and Standards: The Experience of the College of Education in the Sultan Qaboos University”.

Dr Hamoud bin Abdullah al Shukri from the Ministry of Higher Education presented a working paper entitled “Profession­al Standards for the Teacher”.

The second session included three working papers.

The first paper was presented by Dr Amira bint Suleiman al Shabibi from the Specialise­d Centre for Teacher Vocational Training entitled “The Impact of the Educationa­l System Challenges in the Sultanate of Oman on the Profession­al Developmen­t of the Teacher”.

Dr Sultan bin Khamis al Naebi from the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science (SQHCCS) presented a paper entitled “SQHCCS Experience in Training the Faculty and Related Jobs”.
