Assarain beat PTI in rain-hit game, TR Engineering trounce Taurus XI
MUSCAT: Shahan Akram scored fighting 86 to help Assarain win its rain-hit match against Passage to India (PTI) by 133 runs at Ministry of Sports grassy ground 1 in Amerat on Thursday.
According to the playing conditions, if the play is stopped due to rain and cannot restart, the team batting second must be one run ahead of the par score achieved by the side batting first in that particular over.
Chasing 190 to win, PTI were 56 for 5 in 20.1 overs when the play was stopped for the last time due to rain, 11 runs short of Assarain’s score of 66 in 20 overs.
Batting first, Assarain struggled their way to 189 for 9 in 50 overs. With wickets tumbling all around him, Shahan’s valiant knock lent his team’s total some respectability. Apart from him, only Sanuth Ebrahim (32) and Mohammed Nadeem (24) scored in the double figures. Bilal Khan was brilliant with the ball, taking 5 for 43 while Aqib Ilyas claimed 3 for 16.
PTI was jolted by early setbacks and never really recovered to be able to increase its net run rate to be at par with that of Assarain at the end of each over. In an H Division game, TR Engineering thrashed Taurus XI by 74 runs at Muscat Municipality ground 4 on Friday.
Invited to bat first, TR Engineering scored 164 for 8 in 20 overs thanks to useful knocks by Javed Shaikh (36 off 27), Zaheer (26 off 18) and Makhajankar Salman (26 off 23). Nazim Hamdule bowled superbly to claim 5 for 28.
Taurus XI folded up for only 90 in 15.4 overs. Nazim Hamdule scored 27 while Ayaz Ahmed contributed 20. Haris Alam bolwed only 4 deliveries picking up 3 wickets without conceding a run.
