SHONAL WINS ROTAX MAX THIRD ROUND

ABU DHABI: Seven-year-old Shonal Kunimal claimed the top spot in the third round of the 2018-19 UAE Rotax Max Challenge Championsh­ip in the Bambino Category (age 5-8 years old) races completed at the Al Forsan on November 16.

The races consisted of four time trials each of 10 minutes.

The Indian School Al GhubraInte­rnational, 2nd grade student, completed the races with top podium place. There are another 5 more rounds of UAE RMC championsh­ip in this race season of 2018-2019.

Shonal got in the heat 1 with a timing of 1m:20.875 msec and 1m:20.910 sec in the second heat while it was 1m:20.231 sec in heat 3. And in the fourth and final time trial, Shonal got 1m:21.064 sec, which led Shonal to get the 77 points out of max point 80.

Shonal got in the heat 1 with a timing of 1m:20.875 sec and with 1m:22.165 Leonidas Peruzzi was chasing Shonal.

Greek driver Leonidas Peruzzi came first in the Heat 2 he made 1m:20.586 sec and with 1m:20.910 sec Shonal was chasing Leonidas.

Peruzzi then lost 10 points as penalty as the extra weight block on the kart fell down in the track during the race. So, Leonidas kart total weight came less than 69kg, which made him get penalty of 10 points.

During the third time trial, Shonal also got a penalty of 2 points, because of kart contact with American driver Gavin Miller.

Shonal was followed by the second position (P2) by Adam Awan (Omani) and third position (P3) by Zak Sowerby (Britain). Greek driver Peruzzi missed the podium due to penalty.

Shonal thanked Suleiman al Rawahi, Managing Director of OAA (Oman Automobile Associatio­n) and his coach Sanad al Rawahi for the support.

Next up, Shonal is getting ready for the third round of IAME X30 championsh­ip at Ras Al Khaima on November 23.
