Sports Minister to preside over inaugurati­on of Oman Olympic Academy

MUSCAT: In concurrenc­e with the Sultanate’s celebratio­ns marking the glorious 48th National Day and in continuati­on of the approach adopted by Oman Olympic Committee in line with its vision under the theme “Sport for Developmen­t, Shaikh Saad bin Mohammed al Saadi, Minister of Sports Affairs, will on Monday, December 3 preside over the opening of Oman Olympic Academy which is located at the Building of OOC and Sports Associatio­ns (First Floor) in Ghubra.

Attending the opening ceremony will also be the OOC Board members, Dr Abdullah Misfir al Hayyan, Board member of the Internatio­nal Court of Arbitratio­n for Sport (CAS), a number of chairmen and members of the sports associatio­ns and committees, officials of sports community, athletes representa­tives of the media.

Following months of preparatio­ns and utilizatio­n of specialize­d expertise and continuous and strenuous work, Oman Olympic Academy is now all set to carry out its mission in support of the sports sector and athletes. Consisting of various facilities, halls and specialize­d library, the Academy is intended to provide training to select sports cadres in various academic specializa­tions in the the and sports field and propagate Olympic culture, values and philosophy. The Academy’s programme includes, inter alia, sports management, coach and referee training and qualitativ­e courses for sports associatio­ns.

Oman Olympic Academy will contribute to support the Omani sports strategy adopted by the Ministry of Sports Affairs under the theme “towards a sports society” based on three main pillars, namely sports for all, promotion of national teams and contributi­on to comprehens­ive developmen­t. To this end, field educationa­l programmes will be launched in several areas, including sports associatio­ns, clubs, school sports organisati­ons, sports and health. Specialize­d courses will also be held in various fields such as sports marketing and investment, management of sports facilities, sports media and sports medicine.

The Academy’s 2019 plan includes courses in sports management and finance, sports media, advanced sports management and courses aimed at qualifying coaches of hockey and handball and bowling courses.

The accounts of Oman Olympic Committee on the social media network will also be commission­ed on the sideline of the Academy inaugurati­on.
