ISC tourney concludes as Ram claims a double

MUSCAT: Ram V stole the limelight on the concluding day of the Annual Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Oman. Ram claimed a double crown winning the men’s doubles and the veterans’ singles titles.

Ram V made his first appearance at the ISC tournament a memorable one winning the men’s doubles and the veterans’ singles titles. Featuring in the men’s doubles final on the concluding day with partner Dr Ravi Tej, the duo capped their fine run in the tournament with a brilliant victory over the fancied team of Mohan Kannan and KK Girish to claim the doubles crown and a double for Ram.

The final lived up to reputation as both teams played to potential until three-games-all. Ram and Ravi broke Mohan’s serve in the seventh game, held their next serve and broke Girish to win the first set. The spectators were treated to a brilliant game of doubles, neither side faltering under pressure. Scores were deadlocked at five-all when Ravi held his serve for the crucial lead and broke to claim a 6-3, 7-5 victory and the men’s doubles title.

A glittering prize awarding ceremony was graced by the presence of chief guest Noushith Panoli, General Manager of Sur United Internatio­nal Co LLC, the sponsor of the tournament, guest of honour Sreekumar Kapil and ISC officials. Special prizes were awarded to Renjana Sivanas the most promising player, Sara Susan for outstandin­g debut and Riddhish Mane as the outstandin­g performer. Lucky spectators and players won dinner vouchers sponsored by Begums Restaurant.
