Bank Muscat football tourney creates great excitement
MUSCAT: The Bank Muscat football championship which kicked off on 11 November with the participation of 20 teams at Mina Al Fahal football field has gained momentum with the exciting games attracting a big turnout of football fans supporting the participating teams.
The Organising Committee of the championship expressed happiness with the excitement generated by the tournament offering a total prize money of RO 8600. Niaz bin Ahmed al Balushi, Director of Bank Muscat Football Championship, said the participating teams displayed true professionalism in the matches, which created great excitement among the spectators. We greatly appreciate the co-operation of all teams for their support to make this championship a big attraction in Oman as some wellknown players are participating in the tournament, he added.
Al Balushi thanked Bank Muscat for its efforts in organising the championship and presenting attractive prizes to encourage teams and players to promote the game of football in Oman. Prizes are also awaiting football fans turning up at the stadium, he added. The tournament is a big support to promote youth and the game of football in Oman, Al Balushi said, adding that the corporate sector should come up with similar initiatives to encourage the game of football and promote Oman as a sporting nation.
Abdullah bin Salem al Maashari, President of Black Sea Team and a member of Bank Muscat football team, said: “We are delighted to participate in this prestigious tournament which has attracted strong teams and players. We look forward to greater excitement in the next round of matches.”
The football championship comes in line with the bank’s vision ‘To serve you better, everyday’ and commitment to partnership in supporting youth and local football teams.
Twenty teams are participating in the championship, divided into four groups.
The prize money of RO 8600 will be presented to the top three teams and other special prizes and awards for the Best team in the championship, Best player, Best goalkeeper, Best scorer and Best team manager. The championship concludes in January 2019.
Bank Muscat is a pioneer in supporting Omani youth in various fields. The bank is a major supporter of the national game of football.
