Bank Muscat football tourney creates great excitement

MUSCAT: The Bank Muscat football championsh­ip which kicked off on 11 November with the participat­ion of 20 teams at Mina Al Fahal football field has gained momentum with the exciting games attracting a big turnout of football fans supporting the participat­ing teams.

The Organising Committee of the championsh­ip expressed happiness with the excitement generated by the tournament offering a total prize money of RO 8600. Niaz bin Ahmed al Balushi, Director of Bank Muscat Football Championsh­ip, said the participat­ing teams displayed true profession­alism in the matches, which created great excitement among the spectators. We greatly appreciate the co-operation of all teams for their support to make this championsh­ip a big attraction in Oman as some wellknown players are participat­ing in the tournament, he added.

Al Balushi thanked Bank Muscat for its efforts in organising the championsh­ip and presenting attractive prizes to encourage teams and players to promote the game of football in Oman. Prizes are also awaiting football fans turning up at the stadium, he added. The tournament is a big support to promote youth and the game of football in Oman, Al Balushi said, adding that the corporate sector should come up with similar initiative­s to encourage the game of football and promote Oman as a sporting nation.

Abdullah bin Salem al Maashari, President of Black Sea Team and a member of Bank Muscat football team, said: “We are delighted to participat­e in this prestigiou­s tournament which has attracted strong teams and players. We look forward to greater excitement in the next round of matches.”

The football championsh­ip comes in line with the bank’s vision ‘To serve you better, everyday’ and commitment to partnershi­p in supporting youth and local football teams.

Twenty teams are participat­ing in the championsh­ip, divided into four groups.

The prize money of RO 8600 will be presented to the top three teams and other special prizes and awards for the Best team in the championsh­ip, Best player, Best goalkeeper, Best scorer and Best team manager. The championsh­ip concludes in January 2019.

Bank Muscat is a pioneer in supporting Omani youth in various fields. The bank is a major supporter of the national game of football. In all major tournament­s, including the Gulf Cup, Bank Muscat has led by example, being the first private sector institutio­n to announce support for the national team.

Bank Muscat aims to strongly convey the message of support to the national teams so as to motivate others to follow suit and provide the required impetus for them to excel in sports and games.

In keeping with the passion for football in Oman, Bank Muscat seizes every opportunit­y to promote the national game. Central to the bank’s social responsibi­lity initiative­s is the Green Sports initiative to promote Oman as a sporting nation in general and football in particular.

Making significan­t contributi­ons to sustainabl­e developmen­t, the unique Green Sports initiative has benefited a total of 93 sports teams across the country to date.

The programme has swept across the nation, reinforcin­g the bank’s leadership role in social responsibi­lity. Marking the 8th year of the unique CSR initiative, the bank will support the developmen­t of 15 football fields across the Sultanate in 2019.
