RO 207 million wastewater projects under way in Muscat
Haya Water is in the process of implementing a number of projects in Muscat Governorate at a total cost of RO 207 million.
Many of these projects are in the Wilayat of Bausher with four main projects costing RO 37 million.
This was announced Hussain bin Hassan Abdulhussain, CEO of Haya Water, at the annual media meeting of the state-owned wastewater company at Sundus Rotana Hotel in Muscat.
“The company seeks to achieve the programme objectives of the wastewater re-use project according to the schedule that was prepared in advance, taking into consideration the urban boom and rapid population growth in Muscat, and at the same time covering other governorates”, he said on the occasion.
Despite the geographical nature and population density of the Wilayat of Muttrah, the company is exerting huge efforts to connect Muttrah to the wastewater networks, he said.
Construction of wastewater networks project are under way in the areas of Darsait, Al Wadi Al Kabir, Al Hamriyah and the replacement of the wastewater line in Ruwi.
The wastewater network is 154 km long and the fibre optic network is 127 km long. This project serves about 3,608 residential units, government and commercial establishments.
A total of 1,417 units are already connected and the project is expected to be completed in March 2019.
A modern Sewage treatment Plants (STP) with the latest technologies for wastewater treatment and odour control is currently under construction with a capacity of 37,000 cubic metres per day and is expected to be completed by July 2019.
According to figures presented at the meeting by the CEO, during the period from October 2017 to October 2018, the company witnessed the completion of the Al Ansab Sewage Treatment Plant expansion (second phase). The project aims to increase the capacity of the current STP to 125,000 cubic metres per day.
The period also witnessed the completion of the Northern Area (A3) project in the Wilayat of Al Amerat. The project consists of 155 km of main wastewater networks and 16 of treated wastewater networks. In addition, there is a 192 km fibre optic cable network.
