Oman Olympic Academy launches 2019 calendar of programmes

MUSCAT: Oman Olympic Academy of Oman Olympic Committee has launched its 2019 calendar of programmes which include several courses and programmes of study, including eight miscellane­ous sports courses, five sports management courses and two Olympic education programmes.

The academy’s agenda for this year includes 15 programmes, the first of which was already conducted several days ago, namely the sports law programme.

In March, the academy will organise Sports Events Organisati­on Course and Advanced Sports Management Course. In April, the academy will conduct two courses in the field of leadership and innovation in the management of sports facilities, sports injuries and rehabilita­tion.

In September, a specialise­d programme concerned with qualifying coaches of a number of sports associatio­n will be conducted through two course, namely the Hockey Coaches Course (Level I) and Handball Coaches Course (Level I). In October, three courses will be held, the first of which being in Olympic and societal education, the second will be concerned with principles of Olympic Movement in a sports setting and a finance management course.

In November, three training programmes will be staged specifical­ly in modern management of sports organisati­ons, human resources and sports risk management modern methods. In December, the academy will conclude its programmes with two courses in sports media and various methods of integratio­n of the disabled into sport.

The programmes and plans of the Oman Olympic Academy are based on a predetermi­ned vision approved by the Board of Directors of Oman Olympic Committee, the aim being to propagate and strengthen the Olympic values and philosophy. The academy seeks to develop and qualify human competenci­es in sports organisati­ons and serve as a hub for scientific research and constructi­ve initiative­s and thoughts to better serve the sports community.

AL BUSAIDY, RUDRAKRISH­NA ENTER ISC U-14 FINAL

TALENTED Omani player Ali al Busaidi and R Rudrakrish­na advanced to the final of the boys under-14 singles event at the Iscmuscat Pharmacy Open Junior Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club Oman.

Ali and Rudrakrish­na entered the final with contrastin­g victories in their respective semifinal encounters.

Ali al Busaidy continued his fine form and followed up his fine victory over the second seed in the quarterfin­al with a brilliant 6-2, 6-4 victory to upset third seed Praneeth Raj.

After a lacklustre showing in the first set, Praneeth played with more intent in the second set and broke Ali for a 3-2 lead. Ali held his ground and after being deadlocked at 4-all, Ali gained the crucial break and served out the match for a place in the final against R Rudrakrish­na who sailed into the summit clash after posting a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win over Shantanu Sriram.

Ayvret van Waveren lined up a quarterfin­al clash against second seed Vivek Kolluru in the boys under-18 singles after coasting to a comfortabl­e 8-0 victory over Vinuka K.

THUMRAIT SERVICES TROUNCE SALAM AIR IN SALALAH

THUMRAIT Services trounced Salam Air by 66 runs in the A Division match of the Salalah Cricket League on February 8.

This has resulted in A division champion and runners-up contest narrowed between Danube, Mohammed Riaz and Thumrait Services. Danube have played all 7 matches and are leading the table followed by Mohammed Riaz & Partner who have one more match. Thumrait Services are next with one more match to go as all three teams suffered one loss each.

In the B Division league sponsored by VR Galaxy Virtual Gaming Centre, FAS Aluminium/chicko Eclairs defeated Al Mamoorah Co by 4 wickets.

In the C division, USG Boral Zawawi beat Al Zahf Global by 2 wickets.

In the D division league sponsored by Chiko Eclairs, Al Saqf Eng Co beat SYCA by 6 wickets.

Rizwan, Nandakumar, Toufiq, Biji, Ujwal, Nandakumar, Shirish and Moin Pasha were the officiatin­g umpires during the 10th day of the Oman Cricket Club Salalah’s third season league matches.
