Duqm Port has great potential, says expert
With its strategic positioning, Duqm Port has all the great potential to grow as one of the leading shipment and transshipment hub in the region and the existing and future infrastructure are supporting this claim, according to Wolfgang Karau, Director of the Worldwide Project Consortium (WWPC), the leading network for project cargo freight forwarders.
Speaking to the Observer on the sidelines of the 19th annual membership conference where about 80 attendees from the membership and invited sponsors representing 49 countries converged for various B2B and networking sessions hosted by Khimji Ramdas Shipping LLC, part of the Khimji Ramdas Group, Karau added that Duqm, with its current strength of 5,000 inhabitants, can soon be accommodating a huge population, thanks to the constant efforts to attract business to the Special Economic Zone.
“These figures speak for themselves and its just a matter of time before the mid-oman region becomes a cargo hub setting benchmarks for the rest of the world”, Wolfgang said.
“The intention to run the terminal by the Special Economic Zone Authority of Duqm (SEZAD) is a strategic move towards selfreliance.”
Wolfgang who was all praises for the amazing hospitality of the local people said that the key to doing more business with Oman is our local partner catering them to various upcoming projects supporting the heavy cargo movements through Oman.
