-

Muscat: Seven-year-old ISG student Shonal Kunimal continued his winning streak with his determination as he garnered the thirteenth win of the season when he took the top honours in the fourth round of the 2018-19 IAME X30 Series in the bambino class (5-8 years old) at Al Forsan International Sports Resort, Al Forsan International Kart Circuit on Friday, February 15, 2019. Having top spot in all the rounds first, second, third and fourth round of the IAME X30 Series shows Shonal’s passion and dedication to get all the four races.

On the first time trail, Shonal Kunimal won with a lap time of 1:14.893s followed by Nicholas Stura (Italy) by 1m:16.902s and Danny Leung (Asian racer) by 1m:18.528s in Al Forsan International Kart Circuit.

On the second time trial, there was a collision between Mohammed al Qassemi (Ras Al Khaima racer) and Max Murray (US racer) in the first corner, where Shonal was just behind these two racers.

Shonal had to use hard break. But this made Shonal to lose his laptime and finish in second place with the mere fraction of milliseconds difference between Nicholas Stura (Italy) by 1m:14.885s and Shonal Kunimal by 1m:14.889s.

In the third and final time trail, Shonal timed the fastest laptime of the day 1m:14.789s to grab the top spot.

He was followed by Nicholas Stura (Italy) by 1m:17.005s and Danny Leung (Asian racer) by 1m:20.146s.

Later, Shonal thanked WMS (Al Wahaibi Motor Sports), the coach, Sanad al Rawahi, who is former Oman go-karting star, and GPX academy for supporting him at the championship.

Shonal’s next race will be on February 23, the 4th round of the Dubai Bambino Cup Championship.

As of now, Shonal is leading with highest points in three championships (IAME X30 Series, Rotax Max Challenge, Dubai Bambino Cup) in the current season 2018-2019.
