Oman thrash Scotland by 93 runs to level series

-

MUSCAT: Oman bounced back from a humiliating defeat a day earlier to thrash Scotland by 93 runs in the second one-day international at the Amerat Grounds on Wednesday.

Sent into bat by Scotland in windy conditions in the morning, Oman batsmen were focused to post 248-8 in 50 overs.

Mohammed Nadeem and Khurram Nawaz contributed 64 each for Oman. Captain Khawar Ali hit 44 while opener Jatinder Singh was run out after making 30 runs.

SM Sharif took three wickets for 60 runs in favour of Scotland.

Chasing 249 for a win, Scotland, who were the winners of the Quadrangular T20I Series, were all out for 155 runs in 40 overs.

Oman’s bowlers performed well and threaten the Scottish batsmen frequently.

Mohammed Nadeen (338), Badal Singh (3-25), Bilal Khan (2-16), Kaleemullah (2-23) were instrumental in skittling out Scotland for a 93run win.

The series is now 1-1 after two matches. The final and series deciding ODI will be held on Friday.

On Tuesday. Oman slumped to the fourth-lowest List-a score in cricket history, after they were bowled out by Scotland for only 24 runs in Al Amerat.

Playing the first of three one-dayers, the hosts were all out inside 18 overs as Scotland’s Adrian Neill and Ruaidhri Smith shared four wickets each.

In response, Scotland chased the target down in the fourth over, winning with 280 balls to spare. In all, only 20.3 overs were bowled in the match.

Six Oman batsmen were out for ducks, while No. 3 Khawar Ali top-scored with 15. His boundary off Neill in the 12th over was the only four of Oman’s innings.

Brief scores: Scotland 26 for no loss (Coetzer 16*, Cross 10*) beat Oman 24 all out (Khawar 15, Smith 4-7, Neill 4-7) by ten wickets
