Young Shonal shines in fourth round of Dubai Bambino Cup
MUSCAT: The future stars of karting were shining bright at Dubai Kartdrome for the fourth round of the Dubai Bambino Cup on Saturday (23 February), and none more than Shonal Kunimal, who was faultless on the day to pick up his fourth consecutive victory.
Despite repeated challenges from Max Murray and Nicholas Kimi Stura, Omani racer Shonal Kunimal continued his winning streak with a dominant Round Four triumph in the Dubai Bambino Cup on Saturday afternoon at Dubai Kartdrome.
Kunimal won all four time-trials on his way to victory, achieving an overall best lap time of 1:20.888 on the 1.25-kilometre Monaco configuration at Dubai Kartdrome
Other drivers started to improve their times but Shonal got even faster.
Murray and Stura looked to topple the championship leader, but the best both drivers could hope for was a pair of second-places for each.
After four rounds, Shonal Kunimal (200 points) remains in control of the 2018-2019 Bambino Cup Championship. Nicholas Kimi Stura (158 points) is giving chase, currently in second-place, and Anthony Joe Khalil (150 points) in third.
Four-for-four and all 200 available points earned Shonal Kunimal the Round Four winner’s trophy and a boast of confidence going in the next round.
The driver from Oman has proven that he is now the driver to beat if anyone aspires to win the 2018-2019 championship. Anthony Joe Khalil, Leonidas Peruzzi, Kareem Azzi and Nicholas Kimi Stura are all in contention; which driver will step up and challenge Shonal in the next final round.
During the prize — giving ceremony Shonal said “Shonal would like to thank “WMS (Al Wahaibi Motor Sports) for supporting him for all IAME series and GPX academy for their support for all the races. Shonal also thank to his Coach Sanad Al Rawahi” who is former Oman’s gokarting star. Shonal’s next race will be the final round of the Dubai Bambino Cup, UAE, on coming 6th April 2019 and also Rotax Max Challenge 7th round on 8th of March 2019 @ AL AIN, UAE.
