NRIS from Oman not to be quarantined

- STAFF REPORTER MUSCAT, MARCH 14

Indian residents from the Sultanate who are travelling home will not be quarantined. “Only those who have visited China, Republic of Korea, Iran, Italy, Spain, France and Germany on or after February 15 will be quarantined for 14 days,” an advisory from the government of India says.

At the same time, a medical certificate is mandatory for those coming from Republic of Korea and Italy stating that they don’t have Covid-19.

“The certificate can be issued by hospitals/labs recognised by Governments of Italy and South Korea,” it said. About their travel abroad, the advisory said, “Indians are strongly advised to avoid non-essential travel to coronavirus-affected countries.’

The advisory sent by the Indian Embassy in Oman states that foreign nationals staying in India can extend their visas.

“Foreigners should approach their jurisdictional Foreign Regional Registration Officer or Foreigner Registration Officers through the E-FRRO system (https://indianfrro.gov.in/frro/),” it says.

“They can go out of India. However, before April 15, 2020, they would require a fresh visa to enter India again,” it adds.

Diplomatic passport holders are allowed to enter while their dependents on normal passports are not allowed.

“Those who hold employment and project visas, diplomatic passport holders, official passport holders, and those in the UN/ international organisations can travel to India,” it says.

Indian passport holders who have children with foreign passports are also required to get fresh visas from the nearest Indian mission, while Nepalese and Bhutanese nationals are still allowed to travel visa-free. However, Maldivian nationals now require a visa to enter the country.

With there being many Overseas Citizens of India in Oman and across the world, the Embassy of India has clarified that both adults and children who hold OCI cards are required to get fresh visas.
