Ministry’s Basketball Shield and U-19 League moved to Sept

The board of Oman Basketball Associatio­n decided to postpone the Ministry’s Basketball Shield Championsh­ip and the domestic basketball league (U-19) competitio­ns until September. The decisions were taken at the board meeting which was held recently at the Oman Basketball Associatio­n premises. The outcome of the meeting are inline with the directives of the Supreme Council and the Ministry of Sports Affairs instructio­ns on steps for prevention of the coronaviru­s outbreak in Oman.

The meeting was presided over by Dr Farid Khamis al Zadjali in presence of board members. The board also approved cancellati­on of the junior league for this sporting season. In addition, the board instructed the possibilit­y of bringing the training session of the National

Training Centre to July in case of the Supreme Committee and the Ministry of Sports Affairs decided to release the suspension of Sports activities. While the basketball training will be postponed until further notice in case the situation remained as same.

The 10th edition of the Ministry’s Basketball Shield Championsh­ip had reached to its final stages for this season prior to the suspension of the sports activities. In the main matches of the competitio­ns, Seeb outplayed Dhofar 97-49, Nizwa beat Qurayat twice 86-37 and 92-48, while Nizwa defeated Seeb 62-54.

Seeb, Nizwa and Ahli Sidab teams advanced to the final stage of the competitio­n. The remaining matches were postponed including Seeb vs Nizwa, Ahli Sidab vs Nizwa and Seeb vs Ahli Sidab game. This edition of the Ministry’s Basketball Shield Championsh­ip registered participat­ion of the five teams including Dhofar, Qurayat, Seeb, Nizwa and Ahli Sidab.

The top division of basketball league was completed on March 11 as Nizwa club lifted the title for the 2019-2020 season. They confirmed the title after beating Seeb 60-46 in the concluding game. Ahli Sidab came in the third place. In the under-14 league, Seeb were crowned champions while Ahli Sidab finished runners-up and Al Mudhaibi were third.
