Masks, gloves must to enter Mawaleh market

Masks and gloves are mandatory for shoppers in Central Market for Vegetables and Fruits at Mawaleh. “Wearing masks and medical gloves is must for all those who enter the market”, Muscat Municipali­ty said on Monday.

While retail activity will be resumed from Wednesday from 12 noon until 8 pm throughout the week, the market will be closed on Friday for maintenanc­e, sterilisat­ion and cleaning. Wholesale trading activities will start at 4 am and continue till 11 am.

In the decisions posted online, the civic body said, “the decisions are part of the efforts to apply regulatory measures including traffic laws to ensure safety and health of the shoppers and others in the market”. Accordingl­y, light vehicles are prohibited from entering the market.

“Vehicles will be directed to the parking space located on the western side of the market where more than 370 parking spots will be provided and planned for”, the municipali­ty said. However, individual visitors can enter the market through the side gates.

“Entry to market is allowed only to shoppers in the age group between 12 and 60 years”, it said. “The services of workers along with shopping carts will be provided to transport the items till the parking slot free of cost”, the statement said.

Meanwhile, officials from the Municipali­ty closed a commercial establishm­ent in the wilayat of Bausher for its failure to take preventive measures as directed by the Supreme Committee tasked to deal with COVID-19.
