PROMOTING OMAN-CHINA COOPERATION
MUSCAT: Lujaina Mohsin Haider Darwish has been appointed as the Honorary President of the Omanchina Friendship Association (OCFA). She succeeds late Dr Omar al Zawawi.
Sharing her thoughts on her appointment, Lujaina Mohsin Haider Darwish says, “I would like to express my gratitude on being appointed as the Honorary President of the Omanchina Friendship Association. I am humbled by this honour and will work tirelessly on fostering closer ties between the two friendly countries of Oman and China across various areas of cooperation.”
The Omanchina Friendship Association was established on October 31, 2010 with the blessings of the late His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. The association endeavours to strengthen bilateral ties and enhance the historical relationship between the Sultanate of Oman and the People’s Republic of China in economic, social, cultural and sports arenas.
The historical relationship between the two countries has grown manifold in recentdecades.forexample, China is the biggest market for Oman’s crude oil and the People’s Republic is investing billions of dollars in Duqm.

In one of her first meetings after her appointment, Lujaina Mohsin Darwish met Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi, Secretarygeneral of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the promotion of Omanchina relations. She thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for contributing towards the work of the Oman-china Friendship Association.
Lujaina Mohsin Haider Darwish has the unique distinction of straddling the world of business and the realm of government with equal felicity. Her unmatched business acumen and insights have catapulted her to multiple honorary positions across business organisations and economic institutions. Lujaina has served on the Board of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Board of The Omani Centre for Investment Promotion and Export Development (Ithraa Oman).
At the other end of the spectrum she has played a larger social role in Oman as an active contributor to public life. Lujaina was one of two women to be elected to the country’s consultative council — Majlis Ash’shura.
She has been elected twice to this honorary position from the Wilayat of Muscat and was appointed as a member of the State Council by Royal Decree in November 2015. Lujaina is at present a member of the esteemed Council.
