Power outage in Salalah

- KAUSHALENDRA SINGH @patkaushal

Salalah witnessed a major power outage on Tuesday afternoon. The Dhofar Integrated Services Company (DISC) reported the interruption in the main network that feeds the Dhofar Governorate. The emergency teams of engineers and technicians were working to sort out the issue, as the outage started at around 1pm and was partially resorted in some areas at around 5 pm.

In its statement the DISC said, “The emergency teams of engineers and technicians are taking the necessary action.”

The sudden outage caused chaos at traffic signals at all the traffic junctions till the time the personnel from the Royal Oman Police (ROP) swung into action and regulated the traffic at important junctions.

Most of the officials and senior technicians in the power generation and distribution were busy to rectify the issue and were not available for comments. One source, however, dropped a hint of ‘gas issue’ as the reason behind the interruption.

The Authority for Public Services Regulation also hinted at interruption in the gas supply to power generation station that led to the sudden outage.

The DISC said it is necessary to contact the toll-free number 80077700 in the event of cases of illness in homes that depend on devices that require the operation of electric current to provide them with immediate assistance.

Salalah Airport, however, reported no direct impact of the outage on flight movements due to proper back up.
