- ADIL AL BALUSHI

The Oman futsal team is undergoing an intensive domestic camp ahead of the GCC Games which will take place in Kuwait from May 13 to 31.

The final preparatory camp ahead of the Gulf assignment began on Thursday and will conclude on Wednesday as the team will travel later to Kuwait. The futsal team had a local warmup fixture against Al Rustaq club late on Monday at Al Rustaq Sports Complex.

The GCC Games will act as a vital preparation stage for the team’s forthcoming assignment at AFC Futsal Asian Cup Kuwait 2022. Oman head coach Younis al Fahdi will aim to secure top output from this participation and to take maximum advantages from the matches that the team will play during this tournament.

SUCCESSFUL PARTICIPATION

The team is back to action after their successful participation at the West Asia qualifiers for AFC Futsal Asian Cup Kuwait 2022 which was held in the UAE in April. The warm-up camp featured different sessions including the fitness and physical sessions which was under watchful eyes of the Portuguese fitness coach Ricardo Silva.

Experienced national coach Younis al Fahdi has selected 17 members for the Gulf assignment. Al Fahdi focused during the previous days on many technical and tactical trainings including playing in very little area, quick passes and ways to press hard on taking balls. It is expected that the head coach will finalise the final line-up in the upcoming sessions prior travelling to Kuwait.

Oman futsal team had booked their spot in the AFC Futsal Asian Cup Kuwait 2022 which will be held in September this year after defeating UAE 5-3 in the West Asia Play-off in April.

Five teams from West Asia have qualified to the 2022 AFC Futsal Asian Cup Kuwait including Lebanon, Saudi Arabia from Group A, while Iraq and Bahrain made the finals from Group B and Oman entered through play-off.
