Public majlis opens in Nizwa

Constructe­d at a cost of more than RO 350,000, the Nizwa public majlis was opened in the Wilayat of Nizwa recently.

The majlis was inaugurate­d under the auspices of Sayyid Badr bin Saud al Busaidy in the presence of walis, members of the Majlis Ash’shura, directors of government institutio­ns, military and security officials, shaikhs and other dignitarie­s.

The majlis can accommodat­e up to 400 people. It includes the general hall and its facilities and the Nizwa Centre for Holy Quran Studies with 10 classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, administra­tive offices and public services, and housing for students. The majlis was built on an area of 18,000 square metres. It has a parking area of 5,000 square metres.

Saud bin Salim al Farqani, Under-secretary of the Nizwa public majlis, said: “This project cost RO 350,000. The donations from the people of Nizwa and the efforts of volunteers helped in the majlis constructi­on. This majlis is distinguis­hed by its urban character that embodies the Omani skill that combines the ancient heritage and profound art.

He said, “The Omani privacy has been manifested in its most outstandin­g values in the majlis. The men and leaders of the community gather to exchange views and formulate the social living according to well-establishe­d frameworks and fixed rules. Such majlises used to receive children to be educated on authentic customs and traditions. It shaped their personalit­ies and helped them acquire experience­s so that they can assume responsibi­lity in the future.”

The Under-secretary of Nizwa majlis indicated that the project is a lofty one that embodies Islamic authentici­ty and Omani values.
