Chinese Embassy celebrates Spring Festival

The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Muscat on Thursday organised a celebratio­n on the occasion of the Spring Festival, the most important Chinese traditiona­l festival.

Li Lingping, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, said that bilateral relations between the Sultanate of Oman and China are witnessing great developmen­t in various fields. She noted that the past year was distinguis­hed at the level of bilateral relations between the two sides through contacts and close high-level meetings.

Li said that the economy between the Sultanate of Oman and China are very complement­ary and have great potential, and there is cooperatio­n between the two sides in the fields of infrastruc­ture, energy, communicat­ions technology and fisheries.

The ambassador mentioned that China continues to maintain the position of the largest trading partner of the Sultanate of Oman and the largest importer of crude oil. Until the end of November last year, the volume of trade between the two sides amounted to $36.97 billion, an increase of 27.3 per cent on an annual basis, while the new Chinese direct investment in the Sultanate of Oman reached $20.49 million, an increase of 124.67 per cent.

She also stated that this year marks the 45th anniversar­y of the establishm­ent of diplomatic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and China, and that the relations of friendship and cooperatio­n between the two sides stand at a new historical starting point that provides broader horizons for developmen­t.

The celebratio­n witnessed folk art and music that reflected the traditiona­l, cultural and civilisati­onal aspects of China.

The Chinese Spring Festival is one of the most famous holidays in the world, dating back 4,000 years, during which folkloric celebratio­ns are held in all Chinese provinces and cities that embody Chinese dance, originalit­y of art, singing and other arts.

The ceremony held at the Diplomatic Club, was attended by a number of officials in the Sultanate of Oman, heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the Sultanate of Oman, and a group of the Chinese community.
